The academic excellence of SWAG合集’s researchers is being celebrated with the 2024 Staff and Doctoral Student Publishing Awards. These awards recognise outstanding research contributions published in 2023 and will be presented at our inaugural University seminar in January.

A panel of experts from across the University selected the winners based on the criteria of novelty, contribution to knowledge, impact, rigour and adherence to research ethics and trusted research requirements.

Professor Leon A. Terry, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation at SWAG合集 said: "These awards highlight the academic excellence of our Cranfield research. Our researchers are at the forefront of their fields, addressing critical global challenges and pushing boundaries across disciplines. We are proud to recognise their academic achievements and the diversity of our research."

Award Winners

Dr Nicola Yates received the platinum award for mid and senior career researchers for her . This work emphasises the pivotal role of human behaviour in mitigating risks and enhancing supply chain operations using the SWAG合集 blood supply chain as a case study.

The gold award was presented to Dr Pavlos Zachos and Professor David MacManus. Their paper described . This innovative approach could significantly impact the efficiency and sustainability of future aircraft engines.

The Early Career Researcher Platinum award was presented to Drs Goncalo Rodrigues Pardal, Chong Wang, Jun Wang, Joao Bento, Guangyu Chen and Jian Qin. Co-authored with Cranfield’s Professors Stewart Williams and Wojciech Suder, the paper described their . This breakthrough technology offers significant potential manufacturing advantages, enabling faster part production using less energy.

The Doctoral Student Award was presented to Dr Aphiwe Jikazana, for their paper co-authored with supervisors’ Professor Ewan McAdam and Dr Pablo Campo Moreno. and provides valuable insights into the mechanisms of nucleation and crystal growth, paving the way for advanced water treatment and resource recovery technologies. This award was presented at the Cranfield Doctoral Network Conference in September.
