We are devastated that one of our Cranfield family, Dr Xu Tang, died suddenly yesterday.
Xu joined Cranfield only recently, taking up his first academic lecturer post within our Energy and Power team. From the first minute in interview, Xu showed himself as an energetic, driven and thoroughly nice man, keen to make his mark and be a friend to all. He made a flying start to his career here, quickly forming great relationships with his colleagues and collaborating with them to line up what was promising to be a very bright future.
He was only here with the team for a short time, but we will miss his compelling smile and personality, and his energy. It is tragic that the camaraderie and promise he represented has been taken away from us all.
We are sending all our love to his wife, family and friends at this awful time. To see someone taken so early, with so much promise and potential, is a huge shock to us all.
At this time, the cause of his death is unknown, and has been referred to the coroner. Out of respect for Xu鈥檚 family and friends and their grief, please refrain from speculation. If you have any questions, or need any help or support at all, please talk to us and we will do everything we can to help.
Over the last few weeks, we have seen and felt the incredible strength of our community, supporting and caring for one another. Through these most testing and tragic times, we know this strength will continue.
