The Centre for Energy Engineering provides a focus for the design and engineering of advanced power generation systems over a range of scales, from materials, through key components and on to overall systems.
Continuing engineering research is vital to ensuring that energy generation and delivery technologies are reliable, affordable and properly implemented. This is especially important as the world moves towards ever greater use of renewable energy and zero carbon emission technologies, and unique generation solutions are sought.
To help meet these needs, our research falls into three main areas:

Within the Centre for Energy Engineering, we cut across the breadth of activities in energy and power, with our researchers engaged in near-industrial-scale experimental through to modelling studies. We engage in both testing and simulation research, covering topics such as fluid and multiphase flows, modelling of renewable generation systems, heat transfer, component life prediction, high temperature materials, process/component monitoring and electrical power systems. These help to improve real world performance and generate engineering data to support innovative solutions.
Our research links to Sustainable Development Goal 7, addressing affordable and clean energy. It also indirectly supports SDGs 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), 11 (sustainable cities and communities), 12 (responsible consumption and production), 13 (climate action) and 14 (life below water).
