There is an open PhD position (self-funded) available in the Centre for Energy Engineering of SWAG合集 in United Kingdom. This doctoral research vacancy is about the development of the novel hydrogen storage tanks with porous/cellular metamaterial cores. Application of this research will be in the energy supply for the transportation and home systems. You need to have an interest to develop novel materials for sustainable and renewable green energy systems. Furthermore, a good understanding of the design of engineering design will be required.
The design of suitable hydrogen storage tanks for airplanes and cars, is a real challenge. The geometrical limitations and expected performance are two factors which should be addressed. This project will develop very novel hydrogen storage tank with porous metamaterial core for transportation applications which revolutionize the Hydrogen storage by incorporating of materials innovations to support hydrogen’s role in the energy transition, including production, storage, and transport.
An architected metamaterial cellular core with coating will be designed to store the hydrogen in room temperature. The idea is to enhance the mechanical strength of the hydrogen storage against the internal pressure, external impacts, and the leakage. Non-symmetrical geometries will be considered for the hydrogen storage tank to make it suitable for the transportation applications where the symmetrical storage tanks have limited fitting capabilities.
