Initiated by the National Grid ESO in 2022-2023, the Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) incentivises consumers to adjust their electricity usage for purposes such as peak shaving. It is essential to address the challenges from decarbonisation, including demand surge from electrification and uncertain renewable generation.
This project aims to reinforce the DFS provisions with enhanced flexibility capacity and efficiency through a new machine learning-driven framework. The objectives include creating a prototype tool for domestic users, scaling to community-level buildings, testing the tool with consumers and proposing a business model for future development.
