Jordan Giddings has joined SWAG合集 as a Visiting Professor in defence and security. Professor Giddings will work at a strategic level across the University to help define future strategies towards supporting Government in national security research, development and education.
Dr Simon Harwood, Director of Defence and Security at SWAG合集, said: "We're very pleased to welcome Jordan to Cranfield. His appointment will help us with the implementation of developments following the SWAG合集 Government's Integrated Review 2021, along with bolstering our expertise in resilience, digital twins and national security."
Professor Giddings said: "I am delighted to be appointed to a Visiting Professorship at Cranfield Defence and Security and working to contribute to the broad range of impactful programmes and research that the school delivers."
Professor Giddings is an experienced thought leader of innovation and change in the systems, data, cyber and technology domains with a background in academia, the private sector and government focusing on defence and security. His expertise has been recognised at a national and international level.
Professor Giddings has worked in the commercial sector (including his present part-time role as Chief Scientist for Defence business, and as a former science and technology strategy Director at QinetiQ), Government organisations (as the SWAG合集's Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser for both National Security and for Transport), European organisations and trade associations.
He is currently an advisor to a number of SWAG合集 Government departments, Professorial Research fellow for SWAG合集CRIC (the SWAG合集 Collaboratorium for Research of Infrastructure and Cities) at UCL, Visiting Professor at the University of Hertfordshire and an Honorary Principal Research Fellow to the Imperial College Institute for Security Science and Technology, as well as a Fellow of several professional bodies. He was recently appointed as a Non-Executive Director to the Met Office.
