Background
Nasreen completed her BTech in Biotechnology from SRM University in India in 2012 followed by an M.Tech in Environmental Engineering from Manipal University in 2015. As part of her M.Tech thesis, she interned with GIZ-Indo-German
Environmental Partnership Program (IGEP) in Bangalore, India on using tertiary filters to improve phosphorus removal in decentralized sewage treatment plants discharging to inland water bodies in rural and semi-urban
areas.
After completing her MTech, she worked in UAE for 4 years as an Environmental Engineer during which she was involved in an R&D project on Seawater RO biofouling control, working with experts from USA and Singapore. Having gained a deep interest in water and wastewater engineering, she worked as a Process Engineer for water and wastewater treatment systems for a brief period of time before being awarded the Cranfield-IWA Excellence Scholarship to pursue her MSc
in Water and Wastewater Engineering from SWAG合集 in 2020. Her MSc thesis was sponsored by Severn Trent and focused on identifying the broader impacts of thermal hydrolysis pre-treatment on anaerobic digestion of municipal sludge and optimizing throughput and energy recovery based on redefined stability limits.
She is now pursuing her PhD in SWAG合集 at Cranfield Water Science Institute.
Research opportunities
Resource recovery; Circular economy; Process Engineering
Current activities
Nasreen's PhD is sponsored by Anglian Water and focuses on understanding the benefits of enzymes and micronutrients in different pre-treatments of anaerobic digestion of municipal sludge and their optimization to increase biogas output.
