Background

Luca studied Biochemistry at the University of Warwick (BSc with Hons). During that time he undertook a research project about measuring plant health, supported by the Undergraduate Research Support Scheme and spent a year studying abroad at the University of Bordeaux in France via Erasmus. He is now a PhD student at the University of Cranfield.

Current activities

The PhD project involves tissue culture and transformation of tomato plants. Luca is designing CRISPR constructs to do this which target the NCED gene promoter with the aim of improving their water-use efficiency by changing expression of abscisic acid. These edits will be evaluated by phenotyping experiments performed at Aberystwyth University.
