Background
Thomas completed a PhD in Archaeology in 2018 at Paris-Nanterre University (France). His doctoral research focused on the analysis of archaeological materials to highlight the transformation of the ceramic production and distribution during the late Antiquity in Northwestern Europe. Between 2018 and 2020, he held a postdoc position at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (DK), working in the archaeometry group CHART. Thomas joined SWAG合集 as a research fellow in October 2020.
Current activities
Thomas's research interests are focused on the investigation of archaeological and cultural heritage materials using mineralogical and chemical analytical techniques. Recent activities involved projects related to the characterisation and the dating (thermoluminescence) of fired clay materials, the measurements of trace elements in archaeological human skeletons, pigment identification, and glass analysis. Thomas is mainly working with techniques such as petrography, XRF, XRD, vibrational spectroscopy, and LA-ICP-MS.
His work was initially focused on the late Roman period in Europe, but he broadened the scopes of his activities to medieval and post-medieval periods on a wide geographic scale.
Thomas is currently part of two international projects in collaboration with French, Danish and Italian institutions.
