Contact Dr James Barrington

Background

James joined the Centre for Engineering Photonics in October 2014 to commence a PhD in optical fibre sensing. He successfully defended his thesis 'Design and Fabrication of Optical Fibre Long Period Gratings for CO2 Sensing' in 2018.

Current activities

Dr Barrington is currently a Research Fellow in the Centre for Engineering Photonics. His main research interests are focussed on applying optical fibre sensors to resolve 'real-world' issues. His research involves the implementation of:

Fibre Bragg Gratings

Long Period Gratings

Fibre Fabry-Perot interferometers

James's recent work has involved instrumenting aircraft wings for strain and pressure measurements and applying optical sensors on automotive fuel pumps for strain assessment.
