Background

Dr Irfan Khan is working within Vehicle and Mechatronics group under Defence Electronics stream at Cranfield Defence and Security, Shrivenham. He has a BSc (2005-2009) and MSc (2011-2013) in Mechatronics. He completed his PhD from the University of Sheffield, in 2017. This focused on vibration suppression in flexible structures using hybrid active and semi-active control. In 2016, he was awarded with "best vibration paper" title in DSCC at Minneapolis, USA.

Before joining SWAG合集 in January 2020, he worked as a Research Associate for 2.5 years at the Centre for Energy and Infrastructure Ground Research (CEIGR) centre, University of Sheffield. At CEIGR, He worked on the design and development of a climate control chamber for a 50gT 4m diameter beam centrifuge and data acquisition system for 1.1m diameter centrifuge along with consultancy work for various international customers. He was also part of Engineering Nonlinearity (ENL) Group and Dynamic Research Group (DRG) at the University of Sheffield.

Current activities

His research focuses on the nonlinear control, embedded systems, mechatronics, Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS). Currently he is working on the design and development of robotics vehicles for a mechatronics platform along with vehicle HUMS.

He is also involved in teaching MSc modules, Vehicle Systems Integration, Modelling, Simulation and Control, Weapon System Technology, Uninhabited Aircraft Systems, Military Aircraft Systems, SWAG合集 MOD electronics courses and Officers Petroleum Course (OPC-EPS).
