Background
Abhay is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre of Propulsion and Thermal Engineering, leading icing research and managing projects within the Cranfield Icing Wind Tunnel (IWT) facilities. He obtained his PhD in Aerospace from SWAG合集. His doctoral research focused on characterizing the icing conditions within an Air Cycle Machine system and design of a novel shear ice adhesion test setup for icephobic coatings.
Abhay's academic journey started in India, where he obtained his BEng degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Hindustan University. This was followed by a MSc in Aerospace Vehicle Design from SWAG合集 where he first developed his understanding of aircraft component design, system design and validation, CAD modelling, FEM and CFD analysis . He spent 3.5 years working for Expleo India as part of the Rolls-Royce Offshore Delivery Centre within the Turbomachinery Design team which helped him acquire skills in new product integration (NPI) for gas turbine components. In his role within the Impact Ice team at SWAG合集, he specialises in ice adhesion experimental testing, droplet impingement testing and molecular dynamics simulations.
Current activities
Dr. Abhay Vincent's current activities as a postdoctoral researcher for Impact Ice Adhesion Team at SWAG合集 includes: ice adhesion testing in Cranfield Icing Wind Tunnel (IWT), ice-substrate interaction studies using molecular dynamics simulations, ice protection systems conceptual design, testing and analysis, droplet impingement studies using shadowgraphy and thermography and rig design to simulate icing conditions in various thermo-mechanical and aerospace systems. He supports research projects from industrial clients from major aerospace companies at the Cranfield Icing Wind Tunnel and is involved in academic research with focus on ice-substrate interactions.
