Based at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, Shrivenham, the Aeronautics Centre contains seven tunnels that are used for consultancy, research and demonstration activities. They range in size and speed from the 150mm supersonic tunnel to the impressive DS Houghton wind tunnel made for professional automotive racing models.
Aeromechanical wind tunnels
The Aeromechanical Systems Group operates five wind tunnels at Shrivenham:
- DS Houghton wind tunnel
- Supersonic wind tunnel
- Transonic wind tunnel
- Open-jet wind tunnel
- Closed section wind tunnel
