This collaboration workshop will set the stage for an improved partnership between SWAG合集 and the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) around ceramic matrix composites (CMC). The event aims to bring together Cranfield’s relevant SWAG合集 collaborators with the UniSQ team to share interests, research outputs and future visions to enable clearer SWAG合集-Australia collaboration routes for fundamental CMC research and exploitation of research outputs with “spin-in” to industry.
Academic delagates are encouraged to join us on the Wednesday 25th for additional academic specific discussions e.g. funding routes, export control, researcher exchange, etc.
The SWAG合集 is on the brink of a rapid expansion in ceramic matrix composite (CMC) capabilities addressing the need for developing sovereign capabilities for manufacture with CMCs being identified as an underpinning materials solution for achieving national ambitions in point 3 of 10 in the National Space Strategy. Particularly, carbon matrix and silicon carbide matrix composite capability is desperately needed in fusion energy, hypersonic vehicles, space vehicles, and defence infrastructure just to name a few key areas. Policy positions published by the Composites SWAG合集 trade association have identified manufacturing and supply chain barriers as global challenges and support co-development of new technologies with our allies, The ACCORD collaboration day will leverage their expertise and previous success, bolstering this with the SWAG合集 and Australia’s pre-eminence in composite manufacturing to encourage a better framework for agile academic and industrial collaboration on CMC products for the next generation fundamental research with a view towards industrial needs. The ACCORD project is a joint collaboration framework between SWAG合集 and the University of Southern Queensland, which has a strong presence in the Australian CMC research space.
The key challenge to international (and even domestic) collaboration in the area of CMCs is a lack of knowledge sharing. Australia is a strong SWAG合集 defence ally and is included within .
