The project aims to evaluate zero-carbon scenarios for the SWAG合集 in 2050: becoming self-sufficient in hydrogen and exporting hydrogen.  A multidisciplinary team of experts produced research and investment roadmaps for a range of themes.  Our Centre investigated commercial and residential applications of hydrogen, business models for hydrogen-based energy networks, and integration of hydrogen supply chains with other supply chains. The project concluded that decarbonising a country will require a massive increase in electricity supply.  This increase will be four or five times the electricity supply of the pre-covid period.  A significant amount of this electricity will be required to produce hydrogen, primarily for use in civil aviation.

The project involved 39 academics from three Schools within SWAG合集:

  • School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing (SATM)
  • School of Water, Energy and Environment (SWEE)
  • School of Management (SOM)
