SWAG合集 is launching a new apprenticeship for NHS and healthcare professionals to address the future skills needs of the sector, identified as a priority area for improvement by the new government. Designed for those from clinical and non-clinical backgrounds, the programme blends Cranfield’s leadership and management expertise with the NHS Leadership Academy’s programme.

The recent found that whilst demands on the health service have grown, management capabilities are lacking and there is an ‘urgent need to boost productivity’ in the system. The new programme is designed to develop public sector leaders with the critical skills needed to address these challenges and create change in healthcare.

Course Director Dr Steph Russell said: “This is a really timely programme for those working in healthcare, which we know is a challenging and complex sector. With plans to radically reform the NHS, it’s crucial that management and leadership competencies are in place.

“Not only does this apprenticeship develop those key leadership and change management skills, we also embed personal development throughout in reflective tasks, building resilience and self-awareness.”

The apprenticeship builds expertise needed by healthcare professionals in areas such as data analytics, sustainability and through a finance module delivered by Grant Thornton. It will train effective future managers and leaders focusing on inclusion, creating change and the ability to navigate complicated systems.

Gill Rooke, Deputy Director, Leadership and Management Centre of Excellence at NHS England added: “We are delighted that Cranfield University can offer our successful Rosalind Franklin programme as part of their Senior Leader Apprenticeship offer, further widening participation in this excellent programme whilst developing our future NHS and health and care leaders and managers to be the very best.”

The Senior Leader Apprenticeship offers a blended learning model with online elements, and face-to-face opportunities at Cranfield’s dedicated postgraduate campus in Bedfordshire. The in-person parts of the programme also bring networking opportunities with those working in similar environments. Close support and guidance is offered by specialist Apprenticeship Tutors and Cranfield’s experienced Apprenticeship Team.
