Background

I have been the chief legal officer and company secretary for both listed and major private companies. While I spent most of my previous career as a lawyer, I have spent some time working as a strategy consultant. I now work as a consultant, coach, trainer and facilitator. My previous experience has led me to develop an expertise in corporate governance and working with boards on effectiveness and enhancement. I also work with directors and lawyers on development.

I have an MBA from Ashridge Business School, coaching qualifications - APECS (Association of Professional Executive Coaching and Supervision) Certified Professional Executive Coach and trained with Meyler Campbell as a Team Coach – and I am a CEDR (Centre for Dispute Resolution) accredited mediator. I am also the Director for the Cranfield Non-Executive Directors' Programme.

I work principally on my own as a Board Effectiveness Reviewer and have undertaken reviews for:

- FTSE 100 companies;

- FTSE Small Cap companies;

- Large private companies;

- Private Equity-Backed companies;

- Building Societies;

- SMEs;

- Not-for-profit organisations.

I am also a founder member of the Board Effectiveness Guild, a membership organisation which seeks to share best practices, contribute to thought leadership and promote the value of Board Effectiveness Reviews.

I am the co-author of Your Role as General Counsel: How to Survive and Thrive (2021) published by Globe Law & Business.
