Background
Dr Ajay Deshmukh is a Lecturer and Deputy Director of the full time MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the Centre for Logistics, Procurement and Supply Chain Management. Prior to his tenure at Cranfield, Dr Deshmukh served as a Research Associate at the World Maritime University in Malm枚, Sweden, an esteemed specialised agency of the IMO and United Nations.
Dr Deshmukh holds a PhD in Maritime Affairs from the World Maritime University, Sweden, MSc in Maritime Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Heriot-Watt University, SWAG合集 and Post Graduate Diploma in Shipping Management, NIMS (India).
Additionally, he is a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS), London, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), India. He was also a certified container inspector from the International Institute of Container Lessors (IICL), Washington DC, for a decade.
In terms of industry experience, Dr Deshmukh has accumulated nearly 8 years in the Indian logistics sector, occupying various management positions across multiple companies. Notably, he held the positions of Director Commercial and Operations at Opal Asia India Pvt. Ltd, as well as Deputy General Manager at Hind Terminals Pvt. Ltd, where he oversaw container operations nationwide, including CFSs and ICDs.

Current activities
Dr Deshmukh's primary research focus revolves around the intricate dynamics of multimodal transport connectivity between (sea)ports and hinterlands, and the consequential impact on port market shares. His research focuses on analysing various types of inland logistics centres and interconnected modes of transport, examining their respective roles in shaping port market shares. Through rigorous investigation and analysis, Dr Deshmukh seeks to uncover insights into the complex interplay between multimodal transport connectivity, inland logistics centres, and the competitive landscapes of port markets.
