Background

Gaurav is an experienced marine engineering officer with a background in marine propulsion systems, thermal power and aero propulsion systems. Gaurav brings a wealth of practical knowledge to his work. He obtained his master's degree from SWAG合集, where his research focused on hydrogen micromix combustion systems. His dissertation, titled "Preliminary Design and Analysis of an Injector Plate Geometry with Fuel Scheduling for Hydrogen Micromix Combustor Sector Rig," explored innovative approaches to optimize hydrogen combustion.

Gaurav in his Ph.D, focussed on assessing NOx emissions for aero-engine applications. His research project, "Multi-Fidelity Numerical Modelling Approaches for Preliminary Design and NOx Emissions Assessments of Hydrogen Micromix Combustion Systems" developed best practices for hydrogen micromix numerical modelling and evaluate the environmental impact of hydrogen micromix combustion in aero-engines.

Gaurav's dedication to his field and his passion for sustainable energy solutions make him a valuable contributor to the ongoing development of environmentally friendly propulsion systems in the aviation industry.

Research opportunities

Understanding and evaluating the NOx formation in hydrogen micromix combustion system.

Developing novel propulsion cycles using novel fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia.

Developing reduced order models for NOx predictions for novel combustion systems for hydrogen and ammonia.

Current activities

Gaurav is currently involved in two EU projects: ONEHeart and MINIMAL. In ATI funded ONEHeart, he is focusing on developing a low-emissions hydrogen micromix combustion system, specifically defining the combustor design and NOx emissions characteristics for the EIS-2050 UHBR aero-engines. Furthermore, his work also involves developing reduced order NOx emissions model, that will serve as a foundation for conducting a comprehensive life cycle assessment of the propulsion systems. In MINIMAL, apart from supporting NOx emissions modelling, Gaurav is supporting development, commission and conducting experimental campaign on free opposed piston engine rigs with hydrogen fuel to develop validated combustion and emissions model.
