We are delighted to announce the winners of the 2024 Cranfield School of Management Alumni Awards.
The School of Management Alumni Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of the School's alumni and highlight the variety of ways they are making a transformative impact on their organisations, industries and communities, globally. Each year the winners serve as role models to other alumni, students, and potential students: from internationally respected leaders and entrepreneurs driving innovation, to those who go above and beyond to embody the Cranfield Community spirit and keep our alumni network connected.
The annual awards recognise and honour alumni in four categories: Distinguished Alumni Award, Entrepreneur Alumni Award, Excellence in Achievement Award for Recent Graduates, and the Alumni Service Award.

Professor Sara Siakala (MSc Management and Corporate Sustainability 2015)
Founder and CEO, hatefree gGmbH
Sara began her career at BMW, undertaking a Doctoral internship in sustainability. She followed that up by managing a two-year research project with a six-figure budget on the subject of sustainable supply chain management at BMW. She went on to work as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Ulm at the Institute for Corporate Sustainability, completing a PhD in corporate human rights responsibility.
Sara founded hatefree gGmbH, with attorney Markus Hampel, to counteract online hate. Sara and her colleagues have already been able to enforce numerous claims to cease and desist, deletions, and financial compensation payments. This kind of success is important for the victims of digital violence from a psychological viewpoint and can be life-changing.
In 2022 Sara was nominated by Cosmopolitan for the Support-Her-Award because of her commitment to victims of digital violence. She has also spoken in the media about how those affected by digital violence in the form of insults, threats, slander or sexual harassment, for example, should be able to defend against this legally without risk of costs.

Meet the 2024 Alumni Service Award Winner
Martin Rigby (MBA 1986)
Founder and Managing Director, ET Capital Limited and Chair, FSE CIC & FSE Fund Managers
Martin formally joined the Bettany Centre for Entrepreneurship Advisory Board in 2006 and since that time has been actively supporting the development and growth of the Centre. In particular, over the last three years, he has played a pivotal role in establishing the Cranfield Seed Fund. Martin devoted a significant amount of time to drafting and finalising the terms of reference for the Cranfield Seed Fund - this was an integral part of professionalising the pilot version of the fund, ensuring that it would remain sustainable as an expendable philanthropic endowment. Martin now participates in the monthly meetings of the Seed Fund investment committee and provides valuable insights to RIO regarding Cranfield spinouts.
Additionally, Martin has served as a judge for the Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) over the past seven years, regularly mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs and contributing to classes and events upon request. He has supported Investor Day and given valuable feedback to growth businesses about their pitches.
Martin has been described as, “an exceptional advocate for the School, the Cranfield MBA programme and the Bettany Centre, and he does so tirelessly”.
